LG Display is preparing a REVOLUTION in OLED monitors! Will the new technology change the market?

Calendar 4/3/2025

The OLED monitor market is growing dynamically, with manufacturers competing to deliver better and brighter screens. According to information revealed by FlatpanelsHD, LG Display is preparing to introduce a new Primary RGB Tandem technology for computer monitors. First announced in January this year at CES, it is now set to hit PC users' desks.

New 27-inch OLED – more brightness, better colours

The first monitor equipped with this technology is set to be a 27-inch OLED with a resolution of 2560x1440. The biggest change compared to previous generations is expected to be a significant increase in brightness – according to LG Display, the new panel will achieve 1500 nits peak brightness (1.5% window) and 335 nits in full screen.

But that's not the end of the new features. Primary RGB Tandem is, in other words, the fourth generation OLED, which increases the panel's efficiency by 20% and improves colour reproduction. Although exact specifications have yet to be revealed, LG Display assures that the change will be noticeable. Furthermore, there are speculations that the new 27-inch OLED could be the first monitor with a dual-mode, which would mean even greater flexibility in adjusting the image for different applications.

OLEDs in monitors becoming increasingly popular

OLED monitors still make up a small percentage of the market, but their sales are growing rapidly. Just a few years ago, this technology was mainly reserved for televisions and professional reference screens. Today, more and more users – both gamers and professionals – are turning to OLEDs due to their perfect blacks, lightning-fast response times, and excellent colour reproduction. Manufacturers are noticing this. In recent years, 34-inch ultra-wide OLEDs, 42-inch panels in televisions, and high refresh rate gaming models have emerged.

When will we see the new panel?

Although LG Display has not officially provided an exact release date, it is known that the new panel is marked as a product for 2025. This means that before it hits the market, it must be adopted by monitor manufacturers, such as LG Electronic, Asus, Dell, or MSI, etc. However, LG Display has confirmed that the Primary RGB Tandem will also be included in larger gaming OLEDs, suggesting that in the coming years we can expect a real offensive of this technology in the monitor market.

Is this a breakthrough in the world of OLEDs for PCs? All signs point to yes. And we will be tracking further developments.
