LG has been certified for eye protection

LG Display, and specifically their OLED panel televisions, are the first in the world to obtain the Eyesafe Circadian Certification, which confirmed the exceptional benefits of this
technology for eye health and better sleep.

Eyesafe is an American organization specializing in technologies that reduce blue light. It focuses on improving the human circadian rhythm, which repeats every 24 hours. This rhythm is important because it regulates the production of key hormones, including melatonin, which helps with falling asleep. Its production can be disrupted by too much exposure of our eyes to television screens.

To measure the impact of blue light, the main source of this disruption, Eyesafe developed the Circadian Protection Factor (CPF). This is a new metric that assesses the amount of blue light emitted by displays and estimates its impact on melatonin secretion.

In its tests, Eyesafe found that LG Display's OLED television and monitor panels achieved the highest CPF rating, emitting only 36% of blue light, which is the lowest rate among all types of displays in the industry. Some experts argue that blue light is necessary in displays, as it helps prevent color distortion on the screen, but LG Display claims that its self-emissive OLED panels can maintain excellent color reproduction while cutting out most harmful blue light emissions.

As a result of receiving certification, the Eyesafe Vision Health Advisory Board, composed of many renowned global ophthalmologists and optometrists, endorsed LG Display's OLED displays as an "excellent choice" for those who require exceptional image quality with minimal impact on their sleep quality. The certification was awarded shortly after LG Display and Kookmin University in South Korea completed a clinical study that showed individuals watching television with Mini-LED panels experienced a 2.7% decrease in melatonin secretion, compared to an 8.1% increase among those watching exclusively OLED televisions.

We are very curious if you, dear readers, notice a difference in the quality of your sleep when using LG OLED TVs or other brands that use their panels. As an editorial team, we can suggest that TVs in factory settings typically exhibit an increased emission of blue light because they operate in a mode that has an excess of blue component in the white balance. A proven way to reduce blue light emission is professional calibration of the TV.
