Good news is coming for LCD panel enthusiasts, especially from TCL or Samsung. Already next year, the Chinese manufacturer plans to introduce improved VA LCD panels, in which the viewing angles are expected to improve. This is interesting news because the previous TCL models did not boast wide viewing angles. So what exactly will change in the latest televisions?
TCL will use WHVA technology, where the letter W stands for 'wide angles'. This will be used in VA panels and will improve viewing angles, as well as contrast and color saturation. Such displays will also be used in televisions from Samsung, which has not produced its own LCD panels for some time. It uses panels from TCL CSOT in its QLED and Neo QLED televisions. At the recent DTC conference, it was officially announced that the WHVA panel will be used in models from TCL and Samsung. One of them is the presented 85-inch 4K VA LCD panel with a viewing angle of 178 degrees and a refresh rate of 150 Hz.
For now, we don't know which models will be equipped with such a solution. It is worth noting that some time ago, Samsung announced a similar technology in one of the first QLEDs, but ultimately it did not go into production. As for this case, we will just have to wait and see. Undoubtedly, TCL itself is trying to live up to its promises, as in the case of printed OLED panels, which started being produced on a large scale in accordance with earlier information.
Other manufacturers are also trying to improve viewing angles in VA panels, for example, Sony utilizes X-Wide Angle technology, which enhances this aspect and adds depth to blacks. The second type of panel, IPS, has better properties in terms of viewing angles, but the contrast is noticeably weaker. Regarding these displays, TCL CSOT is also planning their production, which may help it become a monopoly in this market. It will take over the LCD factory from LG in China, which is set to close at the beginning of 2025. Everything indicates that Chinese manufacturers are preparing for global expansion and market takeover, where until now, competitors from Japan or South Korea have been dominant.
