During this year's ISE 2025 trade fair, Samsung showcased something that might slightly change the way we think about display screens. At their booth, the new Samsung Color E-Paper screen debuted, which promises nearly zero energy consumption. Sounds like another marketing gimmick, right? Only, it actually works.
The main advantage of Color E-Paper is its ability to display an image virtually without power. How does it work? Instead of typical backlighting and matrices that continuously consume energy, Color E-Paper uses digital ink. In other words, the image appears once, and then the screen stops "eating" power. Energy consumption is minimal only at the moment of content change - when the image switches to a new one. You may know this solution from e-book readers that operate in a similar way.
Samsung has emphasized diversity – Color E-Paper comes in various sizes, from small 13-inch screens to large 75-inch versions designed for outdoor use. Thanks to the built-in battery, these screens can be easily installed almost anywhere. Of course, the company has also taken care of the environment. The screen casings are made of over half recycled materials, and the packaging is completely paper-based.
Samsung has not stopped at energy efficiency and ecology. The new screen can be easily integrated with existing systems, thanks to the SmartThings Pro platform (which is an extension of the classic application for B2B solutions). From the smartphone app, users can remotely change content, set schedules, manage advertising playlists, and monitor energy consumption. For many users (especially newer ones), this means the end of problems with manually updating displayed materials. All of this is, of course, made possible by the built-in WI-FI and Bluetooth module.
Is this the screen that will replace all others? No, but where a static image is the foundation – it is truly a solid tool.
