Samsung Display and Qualcomm have just announced a partnership that could completely change how our car dashboards look and function. They are working on a new generation of OLED displays that will replace the old, good LCDs.
In practice, it is about combining Samsung technology with Qualcomm's Snapdragon Cockpit platform. Brighter colors, deeper blacks, and up to 40% lower power consumption are just a few advantages compared to synthetic displays. For electric vehicle owners, this is particularly important – less energy on the screen means more kilometers on a single charge. An added bonus? OLED screens perform better in full sunlight, so we won’t get frustrated when the navigation turns out to be unreadable while driving on a sunny summer day. (Of course, they should be compared to LCD displays in cars, not to televisions 😉 ).
For now, there is no certainty about which manufacturer will be the first to adopt this technology, but there are rumors that it might be someone from the high-end – names like Genesis, Lucid, or the Volkswagen group are being mentioned. The first cars with these displays are expected to enter the market before 2026!
