Imagine a laptop that is compact and lightweight for everyday use, but when needed, its screen can expand. Sounds like a gadget from the movie "Back to the Future"? Samsung Display is introducing this technology to the market. Mass production of rollable OLED screens will start in April, and the first laptops with this solution will be available for sale in the summer of 2025.
During this year's CES, Samsung showcased how it works. The standard 14-inch screen can be smoothly expanded to 16.7 inches, gaining more space for work and entertainment. The company leveraged its experience in producing foldable smartphones, ensuring that the panels will be durable and resistant to frequent unfolding.
The first laptop with such a screen will be the Lenovo ThinkBook Plus G6 Rollable, which will hit the market in June. Samsung emphasizes that this is not only greater comfort but also better energy efficiency, higher brightness (400 nits), and smoother images thanks to a refresh rate of 120 Hz.
Will foldable OLED screens become the standard in laptops? If the technology meets expectations, perhaps soon computers with flexible screens will become a part of our daily lives.
