Microsoft is expanding the availability of its Xbox app, which allows access to the Xbox Cloud Gaming service, to LG Smart TVs. Previously, the app was mainly available on mobile devices and Samsung TVs, thanks to an exclusivity agreement from 2022. Now, during CES 2025, LG and Microsoft announced the launch of the Xbox app on LG TVs through a new Gaming Portal.
The detailed compatibility requirements have not yet been provided; LG only mentions "the latest Smart TV models." It is also not specified in which countries the application will be available. However, we hope that in accordance with the promised "ReNEW" policy (i.e., system updates for TVs with the WebOS system), the application will eventually be available on older TVs.
Thanks to the Xbox app, users can stream games directly to their television without the need for an Xbox console. Only a compatible controller is required. Subscribers to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will gain access to titles such as Call of Duty: BlackOps 6, NBA 2K25, and Hogwarts Legacy.
The extension of Xbox app availability on LG Smart TVs is a step towards greater accessibility of cloud gaming for a wider audience. This way, owners of the latest LG models will be able to enjoy games from the Xbox offer without the need to invest in additional equipment.
