Do not update your Samsung Soundbar! (at least for now).

If you have a Samsung soundbar, it’s better to hold off on the update! Many people are reporting that after the latest firmware version (1020.7), their devices stopped working. The most affected is the flagship model HW-Q990D, but there have also been reports regarding more affordable soundbars such as HW-Q60D, HW-Q800D, and HW-S801D. The problem is global – failures are being reported by users from countries including the USA, Austria, the Philippines, and Malaysia.

What is the problem?

After the update, the soundbar becomes practically useless – it does not respond to commands, factory reset does not work, and the SmartThings app does not detect it. The device powers on but freezes on the eARC input, not passing any sound.

How to avoid the problem?

Immediately disable automatic software updates in the SmartThings app or disconnect the device from this eco-system. Many devices update themselves, which could expose you to a loss of functionality.

Is there a solution?

Samsung has not yet issued an official statement, but some users have been asked to return their equipment for service. It is not yet known whether the problem can be resolved with another firmware update. If your soundbar has stopped working, it is worth filing a complaint with Samsung and keeping an eye on the situation.
