Apple TV 4K with New Aspect Ratio

Apple introduces significant improvements to the Apple TV 4K, expanding support for various aspect ratios, which will please home theater enthusiasts and users of ultra-wide monitors. As a result, users will be able to fully utilize the potential of their screens, enjoying content in more tailored formats. This is a step forward in improving compatibility with other devices, allowing for better adjustment of images to diverse display configurations.

In the upcoming tvOS 18.2 update, planned for early December, the device will be compatible with the following aspect ratios:

  • Automatic

  • 16:9

  • 21:9

  • 2.37:1

  • 2.39:1

  • 2.40:1

  • DCI 4K

  • 32:9

The new options will allow Apple TV 4K to automatically recognize the aspect ratio of the connected device via HDMI. In the event of issues with automatic detection, users can manually select the appropriate aspect ratio, which is particularly useful when using anamorphic lenses. Support for the 32:9 aspect ratio will please owners of ultrawide monitors, while the 2.39:1 format is the standard in cinema projectors. Additionally, tvOS 18.2 will introduce new screensavers, including one featuring Snoopy and one with Apple Originals productions. These features will be available for the second-generation Apple TV 4K and newer models.
