Eclipsa Audio - new 3D audio format also coming to LG TVs and Google TV devices

Calendar 12 February 2025

Some time ago, we wrote about a new format of spatial audio – Eclipsa Audio. As reported by FlatpanelsHD, this technology, originally planned for debut in Samsung TVs and soundbars, will also be implemented in LG equipment and devices with Google TV and Android TV systems.

What is Eclipsa Audio?
Eclipsa Audio is based on IAMF technology, which allows for the creation of a 3D sound effect through flexible management of audio channels. As a result, the format works perfectly in various configurations – from traditional home theater systems to televisions, smartphones, and computers. Importantly, it is an open solution that does not require additional licensing fees for manufacturers, which can translate to more favorable prices for consumers.

What are the advantages of this solution?

  • Spatial sound: Eclipsa Audio provides a more engaging, spatial sound, comparable to Dolby Atmos, but without the high implementation costs.

  • Flexibility: With the ability to support various audio configurations, the format can be used in both simple audio systems and advanced home theater setups.

  • Wide support: The implementation of Eclipsa Audio at the operating system level (Android 16) is planned, which will enable integration of this technology in products from brands such as Sony, Philips, TCL, or Hisense.

During the CES 2025 trade show, Eclipsa Audio was tested on various devices – the results were very promising, and the sound turned out to be clear and spacious. Although it's still difficult to assess whether the new format will manage to break Dolby Atmos's dominance, its openness and support from giants like LG and device manufacturers with Google TV provide solid grounds for optimism. For Dolby, this is a clear signal that the competition is not idle – both HDR10+ and the new audio format Eclipsa are developing intensively to demonstrate that there are alternatives to California codecs, both audio and video.
