LG Display introduces new 45-inch 5K2K OLED panels: Work and Gaming in one!

Calendar 18 February 2025

If you are looking for large, modern gaming monitors without compromising on quality during work, then LG Display has decided to meet these expectations by presenting 45-inch OLED models with a resolution of 5K2K (5120×2160). The new devices are set to stand out with brightness of up to 1300 nits and the presence of Dynamic Frequency & Resolution (DFR) technology.

Key Features of the New OLED Monitors

The monitors have been designed for gamers who expect detailed images and a large workspace. Thanks to OLED technology, you can count on deep blacks, vibrant colors, and less eye strain – blue light emission is significantly lower than in typical LCD displays. When it comes to motion fluidity, the excellent response time of the panel, high refresh rate, and low input provide guaranteed satisfaction for gamers. Let's add the DFR features and... so what exactly is DFR?

Dynamic Frequency & Resolution: what is it?

DFR allows for seamless switching between 330 Hz mode in lower resolution and 165 Hz mode in 5K resolution. The effect? Smooth image motion tailored for dynamic action games or high detail for titles where graphics are crucial, or we simply want to switch to "work" mode with a large workspace. And this "hybrid" solution is what LG aims to draw the attention of buyers to their displays.

Format 21:9 – wide field of view

As a monitor with a panoramic 21:9 format, it provides a wider field of view in games, which can translate into an advantage in gameplay. At the same time, it allows for comfortably arranging several windows during work or watching movies on a large, panoramic screen.

Deep blacks and saturated colors

We have mentioned this many times in reviews of OLED TVs, but it needs to be mentioned once more. OLED technology allows for perfect black and deeply saturated colors because each pixel lights up independently. Combined with brightness reaching 1300 nits, the image can be sharp even in well-lit rooms. Adding to this a great color palette, the monitor can not only serve us for gaming but also for work with photo/video editing.

Risk of Burn-in and Other Challenges

Although OLED monitors have many advantages, one cannot forget the potential for burn-in of static screen elements. Much depends on the safeguards applied and the way the device is used. It is also worth noting the price, which can be high in the premium segment.

Competition in the Premium Segment

The premium monitor market is constantly evolving. Among the competition, we find both mini-LED screens but above all organic matrices from the second Korean manufacturer – namely QD-OLED from Samsung. LG Display is trying to distinguish its matrices from other solutions. But is it successful?

Is it worth being interested in the new monitors from LG Display?

If you are looking for a monitor for gaming and work, the offer with a matrix from LG Display may be worth considering. The 21:9 format, high brightness, and the ability to choose between speed and details are advantages that not only passionate gamers can appreciate. However, the final verdict depends on individual preferences and financial capabilities – OLED monitors still fall into the higher price category.
