Samsung did it better than LG... on their own panel! The new S95F is surprising

Calendar 3/31/2025

Samsung S95F in the 83" version with WOLED panel from LG Display. Surprising results in brightness tests

In the new series Samsung S95F, scheduled for the 2025 model year, a variant with a diagonal of 83 inches will appear for the first time. In comparison – the previous model, S95D, was available only in 55", 65", and 77" versions, and in all these sizes it used a QD-OLED panel produced by Samsung Display.

The new, largest variant in the family – 83" – is based on a different technology. Samsung has decided to use a WOLED Tandem RGB panel produced by LG Display. Interestingly, no other external television manufacturer (besides LG and Samsung) has chosen to use this specific panel (83") in the upcoming model year.

Brightness Tests – Huge Surprise

As reported by Vincent Teoh from HDTVTest, the brightness tests of the 83-inch S95F showed a result of about 400 nits at 100% white level. This value is comparable to the 4th generation QD-OLED panels that Samsung uses in smaller variants of the same model. By comparison – the LG G5, also equipped with a WOLED Tandem RGB panel, achieves a result of about 350 nits. It is still unclear whether the difference is due to a different approach to power management, cooling design, or factory settings, but the result remains noticeable.

Matte coating – better than last year

Just like in the S95D, the S95F model will also be equipped with a matte anti-reflective coating, designed to reduce light reflections. This solution has both advantages and disadvantages – while it improves viewing comfort in bright rooms, it can lead to a loss of subjective contrast, especially in very sunny conditions. However, Samsung has taken user feedback to heart, and this aspect has been improved. How much? We will find out after the first tests.

QD-OLED vs WOLED Tandem RGB

Will the use of the WOLED matrix from LG Display in the 83-inch Samsung S95F turn out to be a good choice? Or maybe the differences compared to smaller QD-OLED models will be significant enough to check them before purchasing? Stay tuned for our first tests! In the meantime, we invite the impatient to our review of the S95D model! It's the best time to buy last year's flagship models!
