In the world of televisions, another rotation is coming. Samsung has announced the premiere of the model S85F, which will appear in 2025 and is to be the direct successor to the well-received S85D. The starting price in South Korea has been set at 1,690,000 won, which (at current exchange rates) amounts to approximately about 5,700 zlotys or 1,200 euros. The question is: will we see a revolution for this amount, or only cosmetic changes?
New incarnation of the OLED matrix
It is still uncertain whether Samsung has opted for QD-OLED or has chosen WOLED. The Korean manufacturer consistently avoids providing specific information about the type of matrix used. It is only known that the panel offers 120 Hz. So it will likely be the same panel or very similar to the one in the S85D model.
Famous processor and new Tizen
It’s a bit of a shame that the image processor remains largely unchanged – it will once again be the proprietary NQ4 AI Generation 2 unit, similar to the one used in the S85D model. However, the new version of the Tizen system may make a difference. Samsung has refreshed the interface and – according to unofficial reports – enhanced integration with the ecosystem of smart devices.
HDMI 2.1 and FreeSync – a treat for gamers
Like its predecessor, it will not lack four HDMI 2.1 ports, which means support for 4K resolution and 120Hz refresh rate in games. Meanwhile, FreeSync will eliminate the "tearing" effect in the image. It looks like Samsung continues to rely on proven and appreciated solutions when it comes to gaming.
Remote with the "AI" Button – a Gateway to a Digital Assistant?
The most excitement is generated by the "AI" button on the remote. The graphic on it is identical to the symbol known from Samsung smartphones and tablets. Therefore, it is possible that soon we will be able to ask the TV questions like "who is playing that character on the screen?" or "where was that scene filmed?", and the artificial intelligence will provide answers in real-time. This would be another step towards deeper integration of intelligent services within a single ecosystem. We hope that this feature will reach our market. As we know, voice control via Bixby Lite has been available in Polish since 2024, but it must be admitted that the number of available commands is quite limited compared to TVs with WebOS or Google TV.
Is it worth the wait?
The question is whether the new model will actually deliver groundbreaking experiences, or if it relies on a few "gadgets" instead of decisive innovations. On one hand, we have a proven processor, the well-known Tizen, and developed features for gamers. On the other hand, one might feel a certain dissatisfaction due to the lack of a clear change in image quality. Perhaps the most will be revealed by the premiere itself and the first tests of the television in everyday use.
We can already confidently state that it is worth familiarizing yourself with our review of the 2024 model, which is currently much cheaper and in terms of capabilities should not significantly differ from the version for 2025. However, if the high price is not a hindrance, it is worth keeping an eye on upcoming information about new models. An interesting competition is shaping up, especially in the context of... artificial intelligence.
