LG brings motion-controlled games to Smart TV

Calendar 15 January 2025

LG is pushing the boundaries of what a television can be once again. The latest Smart TV models from this brand are gaining a feature that we could only dream of not long ago: motion-controlled games. Now, all it takes is the Magic Remote – the distinctive LG remote – to dive into the fun of titles like "Cut the Rope" or "Thief Puzzle." It's simple, intuitive, and... really engaging.

But, as is often the case in the world of technology, there's a catch. The new feature only works on TVs with webOS 22 (or newer) for "Cut the Rope" and webOS 6.0 for "Thief Puzzle." In short: if your LG TV is a few years old, you won't benefit from this innovation. This is certainly disappointing for many users of older models, but LG is clearly directing its offering towards those who invest in the latest technologies.

Interestingly, the introduction of motion-controlled games is part of a larger shift in the perception of televisions. These devices are no longer just screens for watching movies or series – they are meant to become home entertainment centers. One only needs to look at Netflix's actions, which is experimenting with games controlled by... blinking (yes, this is no joke). LG perfectly fits into this trend, but at the same time, it does it in its own way – focusing on motion-based interaction.

Currently, there are over 600 games available on the webOS platform, although only two mentioned support motion control. This is just the beginning, but the signal is clear: LG intends to develop this feature. For many, this may be the first encounter with gaming at all, and the simplicity of operation means that even those who normally avoid games can get hooked. Will this be enough to change the way we think about our televisions? Perhaps. But one thing is certain: LG is not just keeping up with trends – it is beginning to set them.
