Samsung rolls out Tizen OS 8.0 update for 2023 Smart TVs

Calendar 16 January 2025

Samsung has begun rolling out the long-awaited Tizen OS update for its 2023 Smart TV models. Initially, these models were launched with Tizen 7.0, and the company had no plans for an update. However, under growing pressure from the market, Samsung decided to change its approach and provide the update to version 8.0, the same one currently available on the 2024 models.

The Tizen 8.0 update is a step aimed at meeting the growing market expectations and aligning the level of support with what competitors offer. The new version of Tizen features a more intuitive user interface, including a refreshed home screen with tabs for "For You," "Live," and "Apps." A new hub called Samsung Daily+ has also been introduced. Additionally, the Game Bar has been improved, which will please gamers. With these new features, Samsung wants to maintain its position as a leader in the television market by offering users more functional, user-friendly, and technologically advanced devices that will meet their needs for many years to come.

Additional One UI interface elements, known from Galaxy devices, are set to be introduced to Samsung TVs in 2025.. The new line of TVs for next year will be presented at CES 2025, which will take place in January. Users can expect further improvements and better integration with the Samsung ecosystem, making these TVs even more modern and tailored to their needs.

Samsung has committed to supporting its Tizen OS televisions for 7 years. This applies to selected models from 2023 and all newer ones. This is a significant step forward, especially since Samsung was previously the only television manufacturer that did not offer operating system updates for its models. In response to these changes, LG, Samsung's main competitor, announced four updates to the webOS system over five years, and the webOS 24 update for 2023 models is already available - which you can read about here.
