TCL at CES 2025: miniLEDs in a new guise and TVs bigger than your walls

Calendar 15 January 2025

TCL decided to remind everyone at CES 2025 why it is one of the leaders in the consumer electronics market. The new line of miniLED LCD televisions, including the QM6K and QM7K models, impresses not only with technology but also with size. Imagine a screen with a diagonal of as much as 115 inches – yes, you read that right. This is not a billboard, it's a television for your living room.

MiniLED – a new quality of image

TCL is once again enhancing miniLED technology. Thanks to the new backlight controller that operates on 23 bits. Because of this, the company has introduced 65,000 levels of brightness. What benefits does this provide? Above all, brighter images and deeper blacks, all while saving energy at a level of 10%. Additionally, the new 'Zero Delay Transient Response' system eliminates delays, which means the TV reacts instantly to the signal. The result? More precise details and a more natural image.

TCL QM6K and QM7K – what do we know about the new televisions?

TCL has presented new television models QM6K and QM7K, which look really solid on paper. The QM6K is expected to be available in sizes ranging from 50 to 98 inches and offer 500 dimming zones, a refresh rate of 144 Hz, and support for Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. Prices in the USA start at 750 dollars for the 50-inch model, while the largest model – 98 inches – is expected to cost 3500 dollars.

Even more interesting is the QM7K, as it introduces a 115-inch variant. Although TCL has not yet provided its price, it seems that it might be cheaper than its predecessor.

The question is how these televisions will perform in the European market? The given prices are indicative and refer to the market across the ocean – here we always have to account for taxes and other costs, so one can expect that the amounts will be slightly higher. And most importantly – will we even see the full range of these models in Europe? We have to wait for official information from TCL, but let's hope there won't be a shortage of reasonable prices and good configurations.

115 inches? Why not?

The market for large televisions is growing faster than the hearts of viewers during their favorite action movie. TCL predicts that the segment of screens with diagonals from 98 to 100 inches will grow by 804% in 2024. To that, we can only say one thing: WOW. And speaking of numbers, TCL sold over 5 million televisions in the USA last year, surpassing Sony in sales value.

Recently, we wrote about Samsung's new line of televisions marked with the letter "F," led by the impressive 115-inch colossus model 115QN90F. However, Samsung announced significant changes to its strategy: the company is ceasing production of LCD panels and plans to source backlighting technology from Chinese manufacturers. Interestingly, the QM7K television with the same diagonal (115 inches) may be technologically very similar to Samsung's offerings. Both companies seem to be targeting a similar segment of consumers – those who want a massive screen with advanced miniLED backlighting technology. Will TCL decide to challenge Samsung in this category as well? The year 2025 promises to be the year of giant clashes in the large-format screen segment. Hisense is also entering the game, and it seems to confidently sit on the throne of the leader in the large television category, strengthening its position in the market.

TCL's strategy is more than just competing on the lowest prices – it is a strategy focused on growth in the most promising segments. MiniLED televisions with larger screens are no longer just exclusive toys, but are becoming available to an increasing number of consumers. If you are considering a television that will truly make a difference in your living room, perhaps it’s time to look towards TCL. After all, who wouldn’t want to feel like they are in a cinema – but in their home slippers.
